Romeo’s Kiss

The critically acclaimed dancers of Bovim Ballet return to the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town with a brand new work by Sean Bovim, called Romeo’s Kiss. The show will only run for a short season from the 9th to the 20th of June 2010, and is based on the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo’s Kiss will offer audiences an exhilarating and psychological experience with dramatic dance work that explores modern, yet timeless issues. Bovim is well-known for his ability to entertain audiences from all walks of life through the medium of ballet and dance. The audience can expect to see the dancers translate Bovim's abstract vision in an energetic, fast paced yet poignant production.
Using popular versions of some of the vast Beatles repertoire, this age old story will be given a fresh and contemporary feel. The audience can expect to hear songs like: “All you need is love”, “I want to hold your hand” and “Hey Jude” to name just a few, with the accomplished dancers bringing these timeless Beatles classics to life through their enviable balletic technique while being challenged by Bovim's contemporary/modern style of choreography.
“This is MTV culture meets So You Think You Can Dance, with beautifully designed Love Duets and rocking group divertissements,” said Bovim.
The male cast includes: Ignatius Van Heerden, Devon Marshbank, Casey Swales, Owen Manamela, Marc Goldberg, Grant Swift, Michael Jakavula, Llewellyn Mnguni and Mduduzi Nyembe. They are ably accompanied by the female cast including: Kirsten Isenberg; Simone Muller; Faye Dubinski, Kristin Wilson, Kerryn Howard, Tanya Futter, Jennifer Middleton, Nicola Marais
Audiences will be taken on a journey of pure nostalgia enjoying their favourite Beatles melodies whilst delighting in the dexterity of the dancers.
Critics have raved about Bovim’s previous works both locally and abroad, saying:
